For years i wanted to learn how to play piano by ear (after 13 years of classical piano lessons & 45+ years playing the piano), but i find existing videos & tutorials to be frustrating and confusing because they are either too vague, complex, long winded, or missing important steps.. I started piano lessons when i was 8, through which i was taught to read and play from sheet music. i took up the bass and guitar later on, and developed an intuition for music. i was able to take that with me to the piano, and now enjoy being able to play by ear.. Most people here are talking about "figuring out" the notes to a song, but that's not really playing by ear. playing by ear is knowing how to play the song, in any key, just from hearing it. this takes ear training, but not interval training. you need to learn to recognize scale tones that you hear in a song, instead of the actual notes..
